Welcome to TaliScan ("Tali," "we," "us," or "our"). TaliScan is a product health scanning app that helps you understand what's in the food you buy by scanning barcodes and providing health scores.
By downloading, installing, or using TaliScan, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using TaliScan, you confirm that:
- You've read and agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
- You're at least 13 years old. If you're under 18, you have a parent or guardian's permission to use TaliScan. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 in compliance with COPPA.
- You'll follow these terms for as long as you use TaliScan.
If you're using TaliScan on behalf of a household, you're responsible for making sure everyone in that household who uses it understands these terms.
2. Account Registration and Security
To use TaliScan, you need to create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate information. Your name, email, and profile details should be real and current.
- Keep your credentials secure. You're responsible for your password and for any activity that happens under your account.
- Notify us of unauthorized access. If you suspect someone else is using your account, contact us at support@taliscan.com immediately.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that appear to be fraudulent, abusive, or in violation of these terms.
One account per person. Shared accounts or accounts created by automated means are not permitted.
3. Subscription Terms
TaliScan is a paid app with a subscription model. Here's how it works:
Free Trial
New users receive a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. When your trial ends, your subscription begins automatically unless you cancel before the trial period expires.
Subscription Plans
- Monthly: $4.99/month
- Annual: $29.99/year (equivalent to ~$0.08/day, ~50% off the monthly rate)
Prices are in USD and may vary by region based on App Store pricing. We may adjust pricing for future billing cycles with advance notice.
Billing
All subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store using Apple StoreKit. Apple handles all payment processing — we never see or store your payment details. Your subscription auto-renews at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel.
Cancellation
You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions
- Select TaliScan and tap Cancel Subscription
Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You'll retain access until then. We cannot cancel subscriptions on your behalf — Apple manages this entirely.
Refunds
Refund requests are handled by Apple, not by us. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple's refund policies apply. We have no ability to process refunds directly.
4. Acceptable Use
TaliScan is designed for personal, non-commercial use. You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer or scrape. Don't attempt to extract, reverse engineer, or systematically download data from TaliScan, including product information, health scores, or our product database.
- Abuse the service. Don't use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with TaliScan beyond normal app usage.
- Submit misleading content. Don't upload fake, manipulated, or irrelevant label photos.
- Interfere with operations. Don't attempt to disrupt, overload, or compromise our servers, API, or infrastructure.
- Resell or redistribute. Don't resell access to TaliScan or redistribute our data, scores, or analysis without written permission.
- Violate laws. Don't use TaliScan for any purpose that violates applicable laws or regulations.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these guidelines, with or without notice.
5. User-Submitted Content
What You Submit
When a product isn't in our database, you can photograph its label (ingredients list, nutrition facts, supplement facts) to help us add it. We call these "label submissions."
License You Grant Us
By submitting a label photo, you grant TaliScan a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive license to use, process, store, reproduce, and create derivative works from that photo for the purpose of:
- Extracting product data (ingredients, nutrition, supplement facts)
- Adding and maintaining products in our database
- Improving our product recognition and data extraction systems
- Training and improving our analysis models
This license survives even if you delete your account, because the product data extracted from your submission may already be part of our database serving other users.
What You're Confirming
When you submit a label photo, you confirm that:
- You took the photo yourself or have the right to share it.
- The photo is of an actual product label (not fabricated or altered).
- You understand the photo and extracted data may become part of our product database.
Your Credit
Label submissions are not attributed to individual users in our product database. Your contribution helps all TaliScan users, but it won't carry your name.
6. Health Information Disclaimer
This is important. Please read it carefully.
TaliScan is not a medical app. Our health scores, ingredient analysis, and product information are for general informational purposes only. They are:
- Not medical advice. TaliScan does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition.
- Not a substitute for professional guidance. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider, registered dietitian, or allergist for decisions about your diet, allergies, or health conditions.
- Not a safety guarantee. A high health score does not mean a product is safe for you personally. A low score does not mean a product is dangerous.
Our scoring system reflects general nutritional quality based on publicly available research and ingredient data. Individual health needs vary enormously. What's healthy for one person may be inappropriate for another.
If you have food allergies, intolerances, or medical dietary requirements, do not rely solely on TaliScan. Always read the actual product label and consult your healthcare provider.
7. Intellectual Property
What's Ours
TaliScan's health scores, scoring algorithms, product analysis, product database, app design, branding, and all associated content are our intellectual property. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any of these without our written permission.
What's Yours
Your personal account data (profile, preferences, dietary settings) belongs to you. You can request its export or deletion as described in our Privacy Policy.
Feedback
If you send us feedback, suggestions, or feature requests, you grant us the right to use them without obligation or compensation. You're welcome to share ideas — just know we may build on them.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- TaliScan is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
- We are not liable for decisions you make based on TaliScan's scores, analysis, or product information. You use this information at your own risk.
- We are not liable for indirect damages. This includes lost profits, data loss, health outcomes, or any consequential, incidental, or punitive damages arising from your use of TaliScan.
- Our total liability is capped at the amount you've paid us in the 12 months preceding any claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, negligence, or otherwise).
9. Accuracy Disclaimer
We work hard to maintain accurate, up-to-date product information. However:
- Product formulations change. Manufacturers reformulate products, change ingredients, and update labels. Our database may not reflect the latest version of every product.
- Data extraction isn't perfect. Some product data is extracted from label photos using automated systems. Errors can occur.
- Coverage has gaps. We don't have every product. Regional, seasonal, and niche products may be missing or incomplete.
- Scores reflect our methodology. Different nutritional frameworks may evaluate the same product differently. Our scores represent one informed perspective, not absolute truth.
If you notice incorrect product information, please report it to support@taliscan.com. We review and correct data issues promptly.
10. Termination
By You
You can stop using TaliScan at any time. To fully close your account, contact support@taliscan.com. Remember to cancel your subscription through Apple separately — deleting the app does not cancel billing.
By Us
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You violate these Terms of Service.
- You engage in abusive, fraudulent, or harmful behavior.
- We're required to do so by law.
- We discontinue the service (with reasonable advance notice).
Upon termination, your right to use TaliScan ends immediately. Provisions that should survive termination (intellectual property, limitation of liability, content licenses) will remain in effect.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do:
- We'll update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page.
- For material changes, we'll notify you through the app or via email before the changes take effect.
- Your continued use of TaliScan after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
If you disagree with updated terms, your remedy is to stop using TaliScan and cancel your subscription.
12. Governing Law and Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of TaliScan will be resolved through binding arbitration administered under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual property violations. Class action waivers apply to the extent permitted by law.
You agree to attempt informal resolution by contacting support@taliscan.com before initiating any formal proceeding. We'll try to work it out.
13. General Provisions
- Entire Agreement. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and TaliScan.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
- No Waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision doesn't waive that right or provision.
- Assignment. We may assign our rights under these terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. You may not assign your rights without our consent.
